Abstract

Edema in third-trimester pregnant women s a common complaint caused by physiological changes during pregnancy. Non-pharmacological therapies, such as soaking the feet n boiled aromatic ginger (Kaempferia galanga L.) water combined with foot massage, are believed to help reduce swelling naturally and safely. This study aimed to determine the effect of soaking the feet n boiled aromatic ginger water combined with foot massage on edema among third-trimester pregnant women. This study employed a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach. The sample consisted of 30 third-trimester pregnant women experiencing edema. The ntervention nvolved foot soaking n boiled aromatic ginger water combined with foot massage, administered five times within one week. The degree of edema was assessed before and after the ntervention using an observation checklist. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. The results showed that before the ntervention, the majority of respondents experienced Grade II edema (56.7%) and Grade V edema (33.3%). After the ntervention, no respondents experienced Grade V edema, and there was an ncrease n the number of respondents with Grade  and Grade I edema. The Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test yielded a Z-value of -5.477 and a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), ndicating a significant effect of the ntervention on reducing the degree of edema. n conclusion, soaking the feet n boiled aromatic ginger water combined with foot massage was effective n reducing the degree of edema among third-trimester pregnant women. This ntervention may be considered an alternative complementary therapy n midwifery care.
