Abstract

School-age children in Indonesia face complex nutritional problems, including being severely underweight, underweight, overweight, and obese. The causes of these nutritional issues include low consumption of fruits and vegetables among school-age children, low daily protein intake that mainly comes from plant-based sources, high consumption of foods and beverages containing high levels of sugar, salt, and fat, low fluid intake, as well as a low rate of exclusive breastfeeding. To prevent both undernutrition and overnutrition, it is important to develop understanding and practices related to a healthy lifestyle, particularly through balanced nutrition. Educational outreach efforts aimed at increasing knowledge about balanced nutrition are essential to address nutritional issues, such as those found at SDN 100618.The outreach was conducted at SDN 100618 in Sorimadingin Village, Batang Angkola Subdistrict, South Tapanuli Regency on May 27, 2025. This method was chosen because some students are not yet fluent in reading, making this approach more effective for increasing knowledge about balanced nutrition.A recommendation from this activity is that the outreach should be carried out comprehensively throughout SDN 100618 Sorimadingin, rather than focusing only on one class, specifically grade three.
